Total Area of District Una is 1540 Sq Km Industrialization and Changing Geography of Una. District is entirely located in Shivalik Doon and is enclosed by mountain from three sides. It can be seen as transitional zone between Plain culture and Shivalik culture. In last decade district has seen rapid change in its Economy, Demography and Geography. Migration and Changing Geography of Una

Migration of People from other states specially U.P, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh etc and their further settlement in district providing another dimension to regional geography. These new migrant mainly in search of better employment occupied the fringe of cities and river banks. Mining is another causative factor changing the landscape. District has around 80 stone crushers, which mainly depends upon river and mountain mining. Over the decades these crusher has significantly altered the Landscape. Stone crushers has reshape the hills and slopes into stepped quarry faces, they have replaced the natural contours with sharp cuts. River terraces and rocky outcrops are also removed, changing valley profiles. New haul roads carve through farmland and forest edges these further fragmenting the terrain. Fine dust deposits alter soil surface color and texture across the area. Mining activities are very intensive in Gagret,Amb and Haroli Block.
